Primary: He was successful in the primary on August 26, 2014, receiving 31.1 percent of the vote. He competed against Jacqueline Schwartz and Rachel Glorioso Dooley.
General: He faced incumbent Judge Jacqueline Schwartz in the general election on November 4, 2014.

Education
Bocanegra earned both his undergraduate and J.D. degrees from Nova Southeastern University.[3]
Career
Bocanegra is an adjunct professor at Miami Dade College and St. Thomas University. He instructs classes on criminal justice and business law. His other experience includes thirty years of experience as a police officer and as a city manager for the Town of Miami Lakes.[3]
