Georgia special elections yield two new state senators and two run-offs

Atlanta, Georgia: Voters decided on new members to the Georgia General Assembly in a special election held on January 8. The seat of former Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers was won by the president and CEO of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Brandon Beach. The other senate seat, which had been vacant since Bill Hamrick resigned in September 2012, will now be held by Mike Dugan.
Two other seats in the legislative body are headed to a runoff after no candidates claimed a majority in the special election, one each in both the Georgia State Senate and Georgia House of Representatives. Both runoffs will take place in special elections scheduled for February 5.[1]
