Gov. Snyder appoints two to trial courts
April 16, 2012
Michigan: On Friday, Governor Rick Snyder announced two appointments to the state's trial courts. Kathleen M. Brickley was appointed to the 36th Circuit Court in Van Buren County and Daniel Goostrey was appointed to the 12th District Court in Jackson County.
Prior to the appointment, Brickley worked as an attorney in private practice. She was appointed to succeed William C. Buhl. Of the appointee, Governor Snyder said, "Kathleen is an accomplished attorney who was a pioneer in the drug treatment court movement in Michigan. She has a proud family history of public service and will serve honorably as Van Buren County's first female judge."[1]
Goostrey was also an attorney before joining the court. He will succeed James Justin, who was removed from office by the Michigan Supreme Court for misconduct. At the time of appointment, Governor Snyder said this of Goostrey: "Dan Goostrey is an experienced lawyer with a diverse legal practice. His extensive experience with public education and youth activities in the Jackson area will serve him well as a district judge."[2]
Both judges will serve terms that expire on January 1, 2013. If they wish to continue serving, they must compete for their seats in the 2012 judicial election.
