Sexual harassment complaint
Iddings served a six-month unpaid suspension, which began on July 5, 2017. The Michigan Supreme Court ordered the suspension following an investigation by Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission into a sexual harassment complaint against the judge.[6]
In December 2016, Lenawee County paid $100,000 in a settlement over a sexual harassment complaint filed against Judge Iddings by a former probate court secretary. The county paid the settlement through its liability insurance with the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority. The woman who filed the complaint worked for Iddings from 2010 to 2015.[7]
The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission also launched an investigation into the complaint. "Specifically, he admits showing [*****] a video by Agent Provacateur (sic) depicting scantily clad women in lingerie; writing, 'Besides, she's sexy as hell' in a reference letter; writing 'seduce [*****]' on his electronic calendar and showing it to her; and telling her 'you owe me one' when she took vacation time to attend events for her son," read the commission's report, which blocked out the woman's name. The commission recommended that Iddings serve a 60-day suspension without pay, attend counseling, and attend a "Maintaining Proper Boundaries Course."[8] Iddings apologized for his actions. "As a judge and a decent person, I have admitted what I have done and take full responsibility for my actions," he said in an email.[8]
