Jake Holder
Jake Holder was a 2014 Democratic candidate for District 10 of the Nevada State Assembly.
Campaign themes
2014
Holder's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Income Inequality and Poverty
- Excerpt: "I'm in favor of raising the minimum wage and any program designed to help expand the middle class while not restricting or discouraging capital investment. I'm a socially minded capitalist. At the state level, for every piece of legislation considered, I will ask, "what affect will this legislation have on reducing or eliminating poverty and improving income equality?"
Education
- Excerpt: "We need to increase the starting pay for teachers to $45,000 per year to attract the best teachers and compete with other jobs they can get paying that much. We need smaller class sizes. 20 is ideal and 30 is too many. We need to work with the federal gov't to allow those in the military who served during wartime to stay in or get back in and on the military payroll."
Stadium and a Park on LV Blvd
- Excerpt: "Las Vegas and UNLV desperately need a full size stadium. It must be a retractable roof stadium that can hold about 50-75,000 people and it must be on campus. I will work with all involved to make this happen."
- Excerpt: "We need a beautiful green park with palm trees, walking paths, restrooms, sitting areas, and water fountains on Las Vegas Blvd."
2nd Amend - Right to Bear Arms
- Excerpt: "If you are and have demonstrated you are a responsible mentally stable law abiding citizen (and, yes as judged by others in society) then you absolutely have the right to bear arms."
Social Security
- Excerpt: "The only reason to privatize Social Security is to give some big money management company on Wall Street a huge money management contract. There are some programs that just should not be privatized and this is one of them."
