Jocelyn B. Cate
Jocelyn B. Cate was a family court judge for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in South Carolina.[1] She served from 2002 to 2020. She was elected to the court by the South Carolina General Assembly in February 2002, and was re-elected in 2008 and 2014.[2] She retired at the end of her term on June 30, 2020.[3]
Education
Cate received her undergraduate degree in English literature from the University of South Carolina in 1983 and her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1986.[2]
Career
After graduating from law school, Cate worked for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office and later clerked for Judge Lawrence E. Richter, Jr. Afterward, she was an associate attorney with the firm of Watson, Tiencken & West in Moncks Corner, and later moved to the firm of Richter Firm, P.A., eventually becoming a partner. Next, Cate began working at her own family law practice and then returned to work for the Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office, where she stayed until her election to the court in February 2002.[2]
