December 13, 2011

Arkansas: After 22 years of service, Judge Phillip Shirron is stepping down from the court on December 31st. Shirron was the first judge to serve on his seat on the Arkansas 7th Judicial Circuit, with the first election for the judgeship in 1988. Prior to that year, he was an attorney in private practice and served as Deputy Prosecuting Attonrey from 1977 to 1984.[1]

With his retirement, Shirron will leave a vacancy on the court to be filled in the 2012 judicial election. If Governor Beebe sees fit, he may appoint a temporary successor to serve until a new judge would take office in 2013.[1]
