December 23, 2011

Arkansas: Governor Mike Beebe wasted little time appointing a replacement for Phillip Shirron on the Seventh Circuit. On Monday, he announced the appointment of Ed Koon to succeed Shirron on the court. Koon's appointment was revealed at the same time as 48 other appointments to boards and commissions in the state.[1]

Koon has most recently been an attorney in private practice, and is also a member of the Arkansas State Bar. His term will expire on December 31, 2012, which means that the seat will be open for election next year. In Arkansas, it is customary that appointees do not run for the seats to which they are appointed.[2][3]
