La Tia W. Martin (Democratic Party) was a judge of the New York Supreme Court 12th Judicial District. She left office on December 31, 2024.

Education

Martin received her B.S. from Boston University in 1976 and her J.D. from Rutgers University in 1979.[1]

Career

Martin began her career in 1979 as an assistant Bronx County district attorney. In 1982, she became an inspector general for the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs. She then worked as inspector general for the NYC Department of Finance (Tax Commission, Financial Information Services Agency, and Office of Payroll) from 1984 to 1990. She served as general counsel to the NYC Office of the Sheriff from 1990 until her judicial appointment in 1995.

Martin was appointed to the New York City Criminal Court in 1995 and was elected to the New York City Civil Court, Bronx County in 1998. She served on the civil court through 2002. During this time, from 1999 through 2002, she was also an acting supreme court justice.[1]

The filing deadline for candidates who wish to run in this election was July 14, 2016.[2] La Tia W. Martin, Doris M. Gonzalez, and Donald A. Miles were unopposed in the general election for three open seats on the New York Supreme Court 12th Judicial District.[3]
