The Maryland Enactment of Legislation in Counties Amendment, also known as Amendment 1, was on the November 6, 1956 ballot in Maryland as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved. The measure authorized County Councils of charter counties to sit for the enactment of legislation for no longer than forty-five days, which need not be consecutive.[1][2]
