Primary: He was successful in the Democratic primary on May 6, 2014, receiving 69.3 percent of the vote. He competed against Richard Rush.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 42.4 percent of the vote. He competed against James B. Hancock.

Lorch received his bachelor's degree from Centre College and his J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law.[3]
