Merik R. Aaron is a judge of the Nassau County Family Court and an acting justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in New York. He has served in these positions since 2011, following a 2010 election. He also served on appointment to this court during the latter half of 2006, but was defeated in the 2006 general election. His current term ends in 2020.[1][2][3][4]

Biography and Education

Aaron received his B.S. (Biology) and M.S. degrees from Long Island University in 1969 and 1971, respectively. He went on to earn and Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University in 1982 and then, ten years later, a J.D. degree from the Touro College-Fuchsberg Law Center (1992). He also holds a Prof. Diploma from Hofstra University (1974).

In addition to his legal career, Aaron has worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal and professor. He has taught as an adjunct professor at Nassau Community College since 1974.[5][6]

Career

Aaron began his legal career as a law clerk for Liotti and Skelos. He then worked as General Counsel for Cliff Data Systems. After that, he worked as Deputy and then Principal Deputy Town Attorney for Hempstead, NY. He has also worked as a private practice lawyer, specializing in family, real estate and municipal law. He was appointed to fill an interim vacancy on the Family Court in 2006, taking office on June 20th of that year. However, he lost in the following November election. He returned to work as a Principal Deputy Town Attorney and private practice lawyer until his 2010 election to the Family Court. He was appointed an Acting Supreme Court Justice in 2011.[5][6]
