Voter and candidate information

The Middle Country Central Board of Education consists of nine members. All members are elected to three-year terms on a staggered basis every year in May. Board members are elected at large by the district as a whole, but each seat on the board is considered distinct and elected separately. Ballotpedia has assigned generic titles to all nine seats on the board to prevent confusion. These seat titles are arbitrary and do not reflect the status or seniority of the board members holding them.[7] Three seats were up for election in 2014, and three seats were up for election in 2015. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on May 19, 2015.[1]

To get on the ballot, school board candidates must file nominating petitions containing signatures of at least two percent of the voters who cast ballots in the last school board election. The nominating petitions had to be filed with the district clerk by April 20, 2015.[2][7]

To vote in school board elections, residents must be at least 18 years old, U.S. citizens and have lived in the district for at least 30 days before the election. They must also register with the district clerk.[8]
