The Judicial Update

November 28, 2011

Minnesota: Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed two new judges in Minnesota.

Thomas W. Pugh was appointed to the First Judicial District Court on November 21 to replace retired Judge Thomas B. Poch. Pugh works as an attorney with the firm of Rogosheske, Sieben, Atkins & Pugh, Ltd. and is a former House Minority Leader for the state House of Representatives. The Governor stated, "Mr. Pugh has demonstrated a high level of professionalism and diverse legal experience, which will serve him well on the bench. His strong connection to the community and commitment to public service made him the ideal candidate for this appointment."[1]

Edward J. Cleary's appointment to the Minnesota Court of Appeals followed on November 22. He was selected to replace the retired Judge Harriet Lansing. He has served on the Second Judicial District Court since 2002. "Judge Cleary is extremely well-qualified for the Court of Appeals, as both an accomplished attorney and an experienced District Court Judge," stated the Governor in a press release.[2]
