As of 2016, Nevadans for State Gun Rights was a political action committee based in Reno, Nevada. In 2016, Nevadans for State Gun Rights opposed Nevada's Background Checks for Gun Purchases question, which proposed to require firearm transfers to go through a licensed gun dealer. Certain transfers, including temporary transfers and those between immediate family members, would be exempted. The measure appeared on the ballot on November 8, 2016.[2][1]

The committee made the following argument in opposition of Nevada's question 1:[3]

This initiative will require that you surrender your gun to a Federal Firearms Dealer, both you and the buyer must both be there at the same time, you have to pay for the dealer’s handling, and the firearm will be recorded on federal forms, thus paving the way for a national gun registry. If you fail to conduct a background check before selling a firearm, you are now a criminal and subject to arrest and other penalties, including potential seizure of your firearm.[4]
