The New York Rules for Primary Elections with Unopposed Candidates, Amendment 5, also known as Proposed Amendment No. 5, was on the ballot in New York on November 3, 1959, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. This measure permitted the "legislature to provide for the elimination of primary elections where there is no contest."[1]
