Danville, Illinois: In light of the upcoming retirement of Judge John P. Shonkwiler, the Illinois Supreme Court is accepting applications for his seat on the 6th Judicial Circuit Court. The position is for a resident judgeship, which only has jurisdiction over Piatt County, rather than all six counties represented by the 6th Circuit.

Shonkwiler has served on the court since 1974 and is 79 years old. He is currently on an extended sick leave and will officially retire on July 31, 2012. The Supreme Court will appoint his successor, who will serve a temporary term until the 2014 general election. The application deadline is June 12.[1]
