Nicole Cannon becomes first woman on 5th District bench in more than 4 decades

Idaho: When Nicole Cannon took the oath of office on March 11, 2011 as a 5th Judicial District magistrate judge, she became the second woman to be appointed to the 5th Judicial District bench in the court history's and the first woman in over 40 years.[1]
Magistrate Judge Cannon replaced the recently retired Judge Howard D. Smyser, and joins magistrate judges Thomas D. Kershaw, Jr. and Roger Harris.
Judge Mark A. Ingram, at a speech at the ceremony during which Judge Cannon took the oath of office, said, "While it’s high time for a woman on the bench, your gender is not why you were chosen."
Prior to her elevation to the bench, Cannon worked in the Minidoka County Prosecutor’s Office for 11 years.
