A "yes" vote supported amending the North Dakota Constitution to authorize the state legislature to set the compensation of members and repeal language that provided for $5 in compensation per day and 10 cents per mile for mileage expenses.

A "no" vote opposed amending the North Dakota Constitution to authorize the state legislature to set the compensation of members and repeal language that provided for $5 in compensation per day and 10 cents per mile for mileage expenses.

Ballot title

The ballot title for Amendment 2 was as follows:

A concurrent resolution to create a new section of the Constitution of the State of North Dakota relating to legislative reimbursement; to repeal section 45 of the Constitution of the State of North Dakota, relating to legislative salaries and mileage; and providing an effective date.

A simple majority vote is required during one legislative session for the North Dakota State Legislature to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot. That amounts to a minimum of 48 votes in the North Dakota House of Representatives and 24 votes in the North Dakota State Senate, assuming no vacancies. Amendments do not require the governor's signature to be referred to the ballot.
