Oklahoma Senate committee downs proposed ballot question

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma: Oklahoma residents will not see a measure on their ballot dealing with alcohol sales in grocery stores. The Senate Business and Labor Committee rejected a measure on February 15, 2010, denying access to the November 2, 2010 ballot. The measure would have allowed Tulsa and Oklahoma county grocery stores to sell wine and beer.
According to Dan Newberry, the proposed measure might have allowed an easier access for underage drinking. Proponents in the legislature countered that the measure would have allowed for a stimulation in economic development. Because the measure did not clear the hurdle of the committee, it cannot be put into another proposal.[1]
