Four seats on the Pocono Mountain School District Board of Directors were up for general election on November 3, 2015. A primary election was held on May 19, 2015.
Eddie Coover won election without opposition in Region 1 after defeating Maria Geffers and Matthew Henry in the primary election. Region 2 incumbent Rusty Johnson, along with Region 3 incumbents John Davis and Jacquelyn Leonard, won re-election without general election opposition. No independent candidates filed to run in the general election.[1][2]
About the district
The Pocono Mountain School District is located in Monroe County in eastern Pennsylvania. The county seat is Stroudsburg. According to the United States Census Bureau, Monroe County was home to 167,148 residents in 2013.[3] In the 2012-2013 school year, the Pocono Mountain School District was the 19th-largest school district in Pennsylvania and served 9,814 students.[4]
Demographics
Monroe County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Pennsylvania in terms of higher education achievement. The United States Census Bureau found that 23.8 percent of Monroe County residents age 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 27.5 percent for Pennsylvania as a whole. The median household income in the county was $57,408, compared to $52,548 for the state of Pennsylvania. The poverty rate in the county was 12.0 percent, compared to 13.3 percent for the entire state.[3]

Voter and candidate information
The Pocono Mountain Board of Directors consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. The members of the board are elected by voters in three regions. The primary election for the Pocono Mountain Board of Directors was held on May 19, 2015, and the general election was held on November 3, 2015. Four seats were up for election on November 3, 2015. There was one seat open in Region 1 and Region 2. There were two seats open in Region 3.[2]
School board candidates had to file for this election with Monroe County by March 10, 2015. Those wishing to run as an independent candidate had until August 3, 2015, to file. To vote in the primary election, residents had to register by April 20, 2015, and to vote in the general election, residents had to register by October 5, 2015.[6]
