Randal K.O. Lee
Randal K.O. Lee was a judge of the O'ahu First Circuit of Hawaii. He was nominated in 2005 by Governor Linda Lingle and approved by the Hawaii Senate.[1][2]
He was up for reappointment in 2015, but the Judicial Selection Commission voted not to renew his term. Lee criticized the commission, saying they ignored his full record and based the decision on a recent complaint by a city prosecutor. Lee had removed the prosecutor from a case for misconduct.[3]
Education
Lee earned a B.A. from the University of Hawaii and a J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law.[1]
Career
Prior to his appointment, Lee worked as deputy prosecuting attorney for the City and County of Honolulu, overseeing white collar and public corruption cases. Lee also taught law classes at Leeward Community College.
In 2007, Lee was nominated by Gov. Lingle for a judicial opening on the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals. However, his appointment was defeated in the Hawaii senate by Democrats claiming a concern over the number of former prosecuting attorneys that the governor was appointing to he courts. Some Republican supporters of Lee claimed the rejection was a political payback for Lee's previous corruption prosecution of some democrats. The appointment would eventually go to Katherine Leonard.[1][4][5][6][7]
