Richard A. Sommers is a judge for the Fifth Judicial Circuit in South Dakota. Governor Dennis Daugaard appointed him in December 2013 for a term beginning the following month. His predecessor, Jack R. Von Wald, retired on January 8, 2014.[1] He was re-elected to the Fifth Judicial Circuit in 2014 for a term that expires in 2022.[2]
