The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
June 7, 2022: Sixty-six percent (66%) of voters favor a proposal to put more protections in place to address concerns that the federal government already collects too much information about individual Americans. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 23% oppose the proposal, and 12% are not sure.
The survey also found that 75% of voters think, that if the federal government was able to monitor personal communications and had access to more personal information, some political leaders would likely use it to harm political opponents. Just 16% think that is not likely, and 10% are not sure. Those numbers include 42% who think it is very likely and 6% who think it is not at all likely.
Methodology
The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on May 24-26, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
