Senate Bill 500 was a bill introduced to the Alabama State Senate by Sen. Steve French on March 4, 2010. It was sponsored by Sens. Henry Erwin, Quinton Ross, Rodger Smitherman, and J.T. Waggoner. The bill passed the Alabama State Senate on April 14, 2010, and was sent to the Alabama House of Representatives the same day. It was reviewed by the Judiciary Committee, and ultimately died in committee.

Alabama SB 500, if passed, would have allowed members of the armed forces who may be serving abroad to declare their permanent address in Alabama. The probate of the county would then enter this information into his records and the information would become public record.[1]
