Southard wins special election

Columbia, South Carolina: On Tuesday, South Carolina held a special election for House District 100. The special election was called to the fill the seat of the late C. David Umphlett, Jr. (R). Umphlett passed away on May 29, 2011 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.[1]
Ultimately, Republican candidate Edward Southard defeated Democratic candidate Tonia Aiken-Taylor by a 2,157 - 1,450 margin. Southard is the Berkeley County Planning Commission Chairman and owner of Cooper River Construction. Aiken-Taylor is a pastor and a Moncks Corner council member.[2][3][4]
