Stacey Dawn Rubain
Stacey Dawn Rubain was a 2014 candidate for the 21st Judicial District of the Fifth Division of the Superior Court.[1] She dropped out of the race on September 29, 2014, to seek the office of chief public defender. Her name, however, remains on the November ballot, and if elected, she may then choose whether or not to assume the office.[2]

Rubain ran for election to the 21st Judicial District of the Fifth Division of the Superior Court.
Primary: She was successful in the primary on May 6, 2014, receiving 17.8 percent of the vote. She competed against Donna Michelle Taylor and Richard Samuel Gottlieb.
General: She was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 31.5 percent of the vote. She competed against Richard Samuel Gottlieb.

Judicial performance evaluation
In July 2014, the North Carolina Bar Association released the results of a survey in which it asked lawyers to rate the judicial candidates for the trial courts. The candidates were rated from one to five on five different criteria as well as on their overall performance.[4]

Rubain received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University in 1996 and her J.D. degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1999.[5]
