Thomas Solka
Thomas L. Solka is a former chief judge of the 25th Circuit Court (Civil/Criminal Division) in Marquette County, Michigan. He was first elected to this position on November 3, 1998 (effective the following January 1st).[1][2]
On March 14, 2016, Solka announced that he would not seek re-election to his seat. Solka's retirement triggered a reduction of the county's court seats from five to four following the November 2016 election. This reduction was introduced into state law in 2012 via Public Act No. 22, which shrinks court sizes in some counties after the retirements of current judges in seats targeted for elimination.[3]
Education
Solka is a graduate of the University of Wyoming College of Law.[2]
Career
Solka began his career working for the nonprofit Upper Peninsula Legal Services in Bessemer, MI. He became an Assistant Marquette County Prosecutor in 1976. He later worked as a private practice lawyer and then staff trial attorney for Wausau Insurance. He returned to private practice in 1990 and worked in that capacity until he was elected to the circuit court in 1998.[2]
