Charged with stealing money from office and volunteer organization (2016)

Judge Timothy Dougherty was charged with stealing $15,251 from the court office and $97,780 from the Wyomissing Fire Company's volunteer organization, where he served was treasurer. Dougherty was in charge of depositing funds from his judicial office with the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts and allegedly failed to make the daily deposits. He returned the $15,251 on October 27, 2015, 20 days after telling investigators that he did not have the missing money, and one day before he was supposed to testify in front of a grand jury.[5]

Dougherty served as treasurer of the volunteer fire organization from November 2008 to September 2015. The group's financial records had many errors, according to investigators and the judge's balance reports often did not match the bank accounts. He made cash withdrawals from the group's savings account, which was funded mostly by donations.[5]
