A charter amendment concerning mayor and pro-tem mayor selection was on the ballot for Vernon voters in Los Angeles County, California, on April 14, 2020.[1] It was approved.

A "yes" vote supported amending the city charter to make the mayor and mayor pro-tem be selected through an automatic rotation of city council members.
A "no" vote opposed amending the city charter to select the mayor and mayor pro-tem through an automatic rotation of council members, thereby leaving the existing process in place according to which the mayor and mayor pro-tem are elected by other city council members.


A simple majority vote was required for the approval of Measure U.

Ballot question

The ballot question was as follows:[1]

Shall Chapters 3.5 and 3.6 of Article III of the Vernon City Charter be amended to change the process for selecting the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore from one by which the other Council Members vote to one by which Council Members are appointed according to an automatic rotation schedule based on year of election?[2]
