Nicklas received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College in 1973 and his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1976.[3]

Nicklas ran unopposed to his appointed seat on the 6th Circuit Court.[4] Nicklas was successful in his bid, receiving 99.2% of the vote.[5][6]
