The Maine Parental Consent for Abortion Initiative did not make the November 3, 2015 ballot in Maine as an indirect initiated state statute. Petitions for this measure did not expire until February 2, 2015, which meant this measure had the potential to qualify for a 2015 or 2016 election ballot, even after it missed the deadline for the November 2014 ballot. The measure, which was being sponsored by Erick M. Bennett, would have required parental consent for minors seeking to have an abortion.[1][2] Signatures were not submitted by the deadline, thereby disqualifying it from the 2015 ballot.

Path to the ballot
In order to land this initiative on the November 4, 2014, ballot, supporters would have needed to collect 57,277 valid signatures by February 3, 2014. Petitioners missed this deadline, but petitions for this measure did not expire until February 2, 2015, which meant this measure had the potential to qualify for a 2015 or 2016 election ballot. However, no signatures were submitted, thereby disqualifying it from the ballot.[2]
