Casto v. Board of Education is a January 20, 1894 decision of the West Virginia Supreme Court concerning public meetings.
Important precedents
The decision required that the hiring of teachers be completed at a public meeting "the patrons of the school may know what is transpiring, and give the trustees invaluable information touching the morality, capacity, and fitness of the teacher."
