Method of board member selection
The Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board consists of nine members elected to three-year terms. All nine members of the board are elected by district. General elections take place on the first Tuesday in October. There are no primary elections. Districts 1, 6, and 9 are up for election on October 1, 2013.[3]

Charter schools
As of 2013, the district had four charter schools.[4] The Aurora Borealis Charter School serves grades K-8.[5] The Fireweed Academy serves grades 3 through 6 and focuses on reading, writing and problem solving.[6] The Kaleidoscope School of Arts & Sciences serves approximately 250 students in grades K through 6.[7] It focuses on science and the arts by using the philosophy that students learn best through hands-on practice.[8] The Soldotna Montessori Charter School serves grades K through 6.[9]
Home school program
As of 2013, the district offered a homeschool program, Connections, which served approximately 950 students.[10] Connections offered staff to help parents with curricular development and provided students with a computer.[11]
Campaign Finance
As of August 2, 2013, no campaign donations have been reported to the Alaska Secretary of State.[12]
