Four seats on the East Central Independent School District Board of Trustees were up for general election on November 4, 2014. Districts 1, 2, 5 and 7 were on the ballot. All incumbents were re-elected without opposition.
About the district
East Central Independent School District is located in Bexar County, Texas. The county seat is San Antonio. Bexar County was home to 1,822,154 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] In the 2012-2013 school year, East Central Independent School District was the 109th-largest school district in Texas and served 9,603 students.[2]
Demographics
Bexar County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Texas in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 26.3 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 26.7 percent for Texas as a whole. The median household income was $50,112 compared to $51,563 for the state of Texas. The poverty rate in Bexar County was 17.8 percent compared to 17.4 percent for the entire state.[1]
