Career

Stephen Kinney began his career in politics with former U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd. Kinney was Dodd's driver during his early days in the Senate.[2] Kinney would go on to manage four successful re-election campaigns and one unsuccessful presidential campaign for Dodd.[1]

Kinney joined the lobbying firm Gaffney, Bennett and Associates in 1985. The firm has been in Connecticut since 1984 and works for over 70 clients, including AT&T and General Electric. The firm employs eight full-time lobbyists.[3] According to the Journal Inquirer, the group "has solid Republican credentials" but employs lobbyists like Kinney who work on the Democratic side of the aisle.[4] Among Kinney's clients in 2012 were General Electric, ExxonMobil, the Connecticut Institute for the Blind and Altria.[5]
