The Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) is an organization of school boards in Wisconsin.

Background

Founded in 1921, the association says its mission is to "support, promote, and advocate for high levels of student achievement by providing public schools, public school boards, and their students and staff with resources, services, and professional development."[1]

The group is a nonprofit, set up as an instrumentality of the state of Wisconsin, meaning it functions as a quasi-governmental institution.[2]

On June 10, 2022, the WASB board of directors voted not to renew membership in the NSBA for the membership period beginning July 1, 2022.[3]

Leadership

As of July 22, 2025, the following individuals held leadership positions at the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.

  • Dan Rossmiller, executive director[4]
  • Andrew Maertz, president of the board of directors[5]
  • Sandie Anderson, first vice president of the board of directors[6]
  • Bob Green, second vice president of the board of directors[7]

Work and activities

Legislative and policy work

WASB provides training and legal services for local school board officials [8]. It also has a registered lobbyist with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission. According to the Wisconsin Ethics Commission, WASB lobbies on issues such as "employment, insurance, taxation, election, technology licensing, transportation and other areas of legislation that have not been identified."[9]

The Wisconsin Association of School Boards spent $110,293.54 on lobbying expenses during the 2023-2024 legislative session, according to filings with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission.[10]
