Campaign themes
In an interview with the Tri-Town News, Murnane argued that the following issues were the largest facing the school district:[2]
|
The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) initiative. This implementation will affect every aspect of the district, with new assessments in the coming years and new curriculum. While the district is well ahead in terms of PARCC preparation, it brings changes to the classroom, how students’ assessments will measure, how the district will be evaluated and how to drive student achievement higher so our children are prepared for the next steps of college and/or a career. Administrator and teacher evaluations [are also] a major change and must be managed well with solid oversight to ensure it is accurate and fair. There must be clear accountability from the top down, and it must be transparent so there is no question as to the integrity of the program. And population growth preparedness — with many new developments a possibility, the district must keep its eye on the future and plan accordingly, which can only be done in partnership with our community. |
