Tara Newman is a judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in California. Newman assumed office in 2021. Newman's current term ends on January 8, 2029.
Newman won re-election for judge of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in California outright in the primary on June 7, 2022, after the primary and general election were canceled.
Governor Gavin Newsom (D) appointed Newman to the court on September 3, 2021, to replace Fernando Aenlle-Rocha.[1]
Although California Superior Court judges are elected in nonpartisan elections, a press release from Gov. Newsom's office announcing Newman's appointment on September 3, 2021, identified her as a Democrat.[1]
Biography
Newman received her J.D. from Columbia Law School. From 1999 to 2003, she worked as an Associate at Buchalter, Nemer, Fields & Younger. From 2003 to 2006, she was an Associate at Ivie McNeill & Wyatt, and from 2006 to 2008, she was a Sole Practitioner. From 2008 to 2021, Newman served as a Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General.[1]
