Lloyd X. Van De Car is a judge of the Hawai`i Third Circuit District Court of Hawaii. He was appointed to the court by Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald in 2013. Van De Car previously served on the Third Circuit Family Court.[1][2]

Education

Van De Car holds a B.A and a J.D. from the University of Hawaii.[3]

Career

Prior to his appointment, Van De Car was working as a deputy attorney general for the Department of Human Services in Hilo, Hawaii. From 1998 to 2006 he was in private practice. From 1983 to 1998, Van De Car worked at the Legal Aid Society of Hawai'i, first as a staff attorney, they as Managing Attorney (with a brief period as Interim Executive Director), and finally as Litigation Director. Prior to that, he worked for five years at the Office of the Public Defender in the Hawaii Third Circuit.

In 1996, Van De Car also serviced briefly as an appointed councilman for the 6th Council District of Hawaii.[4]
