L. Jay Stein is a magistrate judge of the Sixth District of Iowa. He was appointed to this position on August 1, 2009 to serve Johnson County.[1]

Biography and Education

Stein received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Iowa in 1969 and 1972, respectively. He then earned his law degree in 1977 from the same school. He is now married and has two children.[1]

Career

Stein has worked as a private practice lawyer since June of 1977. He also worked as a Judicial Magistrate from 1980 to 1983 and as a Judicial Hospitalization Referee from 1986 to 2000 and from 2007 to 2009. He was appointed magistrate again in August of 2009.[1]
