Eleanor Sobel (b. February 11, 1946) is a former Democratic member of the Florida State Senate, representing District 33 from 2008 to 2016.

Sobel did not seek re-election to the Florida State Senate in 2016 because of term-limits.

Sobel served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1999 to 2006. Sobel attended the Florida Democratic Convention in 1991. She served as Vice Mayor/Commissioner for the City of Hollywood from 1992 to 1998. In 1999 she was on the Executive Committee of the Democratic Platform Committee. Sobel has also been a Democratic Precinct Captain of Hollywood 61V.

Biography

Sobel earned her B.A. in history from Brooklyn College in 1967, her M.A. in social studies from the City University of New York in 1968, her M.A. in learning disabilities from Columbia University in 1975, and her Certificate in Leadership from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 2003. Her professional experience includes working as a school teacher, community activist, deputy registrar for the Supervisor of Elections, and president of the Emrelle Preventive Skin Care Company.

Sobel won re-election in the 2012 election for Florida State Senate District 33. Sobel ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on August 14, 2012, and defeated Juan Selaya (R) and Rita Gambardella (I) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]

On November 4, 2008, Sobel won election to the Florida Senate from Florida's 31st Senate district. Sobel received 131,514 votes in the election, defeating Ellyn Drotzer (write-in), who received 10 votes.[3] Sobel raised $385,003 for her campaign.[4]
