Five seats on the Erie City School District Board of Directors were up for general election on November 3, 2015. A primary election was held on May 19, 2015.
Incumbents Linda Aleksandrowsicz, Robert S. Casillo, Robbie Fabrizi, John C. Harkins and Frank Petrungar Jr. defeated challengers Sonya Byes, Felix Lohitai and Tashana Pulliam in the primary election and won without opposition in the general election. Aleksandrowsicz, Casillo, Fabrizi, Harkins and Petrungar ran in both the Democratic and Republican primaries. Byes, Lohitai and Pulliam ran in the Democratic primary only. No independent candidates filed to run in the general election.[1][2]

The Erie City School District is located in northwestern Pennsylvania in Erie County. The county seat is Erie. According to the United States Census Bureau, the county was home to 280,294 residents in 2013.[3] In the 2012-2013 school year, the Erie City School District was the 10th-largest school district in Pennsylvania and served 11,908 students.[4]
Demographics
Erie County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Pennsylvania in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 24.8 percent of Erie County residents age 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 27.5 percent for Pennsylvania as a whole. The median household income in the county was $45,202, compared to $52,548 for the state of Pennsylvania. The poverty rate in the county was 16.9 percent, compared to 13.3 percent for the entire state.[3]

Voter and candidate information
The Erie City Board of Directors consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. The members of the board are elected at-large by voters in the district. The primary election for the Erie City Board of Directors was held on May 19, 2015, and the general election was held on November 3, 2015. Five seats were up for election on November 3, 2015.[2]
School board candidates had to file for this election with Erie County by March 10, 2015. Those wishing to run as an independent candidate had until August 3, 2015, to file. To vote in the primary election, residents had to register by April 20, 2015, and to vote in the general election, residents had to register by October 5, 2015.[6]
