David Nelson was a candidate for judge of the Lubbock County Court at Law in Texas. Nelson was killed in a bicycle crash on July 18, 2018.[1]

Biography

David Nelson graduated from Lubbock Monterey High School. He earned a B.B.A. in finance from Texas Tech University and a J.D. from the Texas Tech University School of Law. Nelson’s career experience included working as an attorney and partner at Nelson & Nelson Attorneys.[2]

Judges of the county courts are elected in partisan elections by the county they serve and serve four-year terms, with vacancies filled by a vote of the county commissioners.[3]

Qualifications
To serve on a county court, a judge must:[3]

  • be at least 25 years old;
  • be a resident of his or her respective county for at least two years; and
  • have practiced law or served as a judge for at least four years preceding the election.
