Oklahoma state government salary

Legislator salaries

As of 2010, Oklahoma state legislators received a salary of $38,400 per year.[1] Legislators received a per diem of $150 per day which was tied to federal rate.[1]
The state's constitution forbids legislators from taking other state positions during their terms in office or for two years following their term.[2] However, if a state agency receives "most" of its funding from resources other then the state, then officials may take positions there.[2]

As of 2008, the salary of Oklahoma's governor ranked 17th among U.S. governors' salaries. The average salary earned by U.S. governors was $128,735. The median salary earned by U.S. governors was $129,962.[4]

As of 2010, the salary of Oklahoma's chief justice ranked 31st among U.S. chief justices' salaries. The average salary earned by U.S. chief justices was $155,230. The median salary earned by U.S. chief justices was $151,284.[5]
As of 2010, the salaries of Oklahoma's associate justices ranked 35th among U.S. associate justices' salaries. The average salary earned by U.S. associate justices was $151,142. The median salary earned by U.S. associate justices was $145,984.[5]
State and local employees
According to 2008 U.S. Census data, the state of Oklahoma and local governments in the state employed a total of 249,724 people.[6] Of those employees, 198,834 were full-time employees receiving net pay of $630,491,968 per month and 50,890 were part-time employees paid $41,674,360 per month.[6] More than 59% of those employees, or 149,326 employees, were in education or higher education.[6]

CapitolBeatOK released an analysis of Oklahoma superintendent salaries, which noted that 202 superintendents were paid more than $100,000 a year.[8]

Annual leave
Annual leave is accrued based upon years of continuous service.[10]

Sick leave
Full-time employees accrue 15 days per year/10 hours a month.[11] There is no limit to the amount that may be accrued.[10]
Insurance
Health
State employees choose among five carriers offering a total of 11 choices of plans.[12] Oklahoma state statutes require that every state employee must purchase the basic plan of health, dental, basic life and disability, regardless of whether the employee's spouse has better coverage.[13]
Life
Basic life Insurance includes a $20,000 life insurance policy. If an employee's death is the result of an accident, that amount will double to $40,000. Additional coverage is available at an extra cost.
Guaranteed Issue Supplemental Life Insurance - A new employee, at the time they fill out their Benefit Enrollment form, can request additional Guaranteed Issue (GI) Supplemental Life Insurance.[14]
Retirement

Each new employee of a participating employer whose permanent position requires more than 1,000 hours of work is required to become a member of Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) on the first day of the month immediately following the beginning date of employment.[15] An employee contributes 3.5% of his/her salary, and the state contributes 15.5% of the employee's salary.[16]
Employees may also participate in Sooner Save, two tax-deferred retirement savings plans.[17]
