Utah

OREM, Utah: Republican state representative Stephen Sandstrom has announced that he will seek Utah's new 4th Congressional District which was created by the recent redistricting. This will pit him against fellow Republican member of the state house, Carl Wimmer.[1]

Sandstrom currently lives in the 3rd District but said that he did not want to challenge incumbent Republican Jason Chaffetz for the 3rd District seat. He said, "The 4th was the best fit for me."[1]

Sandstrom initially planned to run for the 3rd District seat, because incumbent Chaffetz was expected to challenge U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch. Chaffetz decided to run for re-election however, leaving Sandstrom to find a new district to run in.[1]

Mayor Mia Love of Saratoga Springs is also expected to join the race for the 4th District.[1]
