Georgia Senators revive trauma care funding amendment for 2012

ATLANTA, Georgia: A trauma care funding amendment may make a return to the Georgia ballot. The proposed measure was introduced to the Senate On February 10. According to the proposal, SR 140, the measure would allot $10 from vehicle registration fees into a trauma care trust fund.[1]
A similar measure was on the November 2010 statewide ballot. Amendment 2 called for imposing a $10 registration fee on motor vehicles to raise funds for the state's trauma care centers. The new fee was projected to raise $80 million per year. The measure was defeated following a 53% to 47% vote on November 2, 2010.[2][3][4]
Unlike Amendment 2, the newly filed proposal would not raise current fees or taxes, according to the proposal.[5]
In order to qualify for the ballot the amendment requires approval on a two-thirds vote by both the State House and State Senate.
