RALEIGH, North Carolina: The day came and went for North Carolina voters and Amendment 1. Polls opened early for the May 8 state primary election, and while there were plenty of other races regarding state legislatures, state executives and Congress, Amendment 1 seemed to be getting the most attention.
The measure intends to define marriage in the state constitution as between one man and one woman, and ban any other type of "domestic legal union" such as civil unions and domestic partnerships.
