Two Ohio measures clear hurdle and begin petitioning

COLUMBUS, Ohio: On April 5, the Ohio Ballot Board certified two measures for circulation--the Ohio Same-Sex Marriage Amendment (2012) and the Ohio Redistricting Amendment (2012). As part of this process, the petition language drafted by proponents must be approved.
In addition, the Ballot Board must also determine whether each proposal constitutes more than one amendment. If a proposal could be divided into separate ballot issues, the Ballot Board will divide the proposal into multiple amendments. This process is intended to allow voters to express a separate preference on each issue contained within a proposal. Separate vote requirements are closely related to single-subject rules.[1]
Supporters of the amendments have until July 4, 2012 to turn in the 385,247 signatures required to place the measures on the ballot.
