No changes this week for Ballotpedia's Tuesday Count

Despite last week's massive rise in ballot measures, this week saw no change in the number of certified measures for the 2010 ballot according to Ballotpedia's Tuesday Count. The count currently remains at 90 certified ballot questions in a total of 31 statewide ballots. In past election years an average of 211 ballot questions were certified, with a low in 2004 of 162 and a high in 1998 of 272.
Today marks the final day to file signatures to qualify initiated state statutes for the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot in South Dakota. citizen initiative petitions require a minimum of 16,776 valid signatures (5% of the 2006 vote for governor) to qualify for the ballot. Three proposed initiatives are pending.
The 2010 election year isn't anywhere close to being finished but legislators and citizens are already looking forward to the 2011 ballot. In Mississippi, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann announced this week that his office certified 106,325 signatures for the proposed Mississippi Life Begins at the Moment of Fertilization Initiative; exceeding the minimum requirement of 89,285 signatures to qualify for the ballot. A total of two measures have already been certified for the 2011 ballot in Mississippi.
